The Italian government has found a private sponsor willing to help pay for the restoration of Rome’s ancient Colosseum. Diego Della Valle, the head of the Tod’s shoe and bag empire, has pledged the entire 25 million euro needed to renovate the amphitheatre, which is expected to take three years. “We can’t keep reading about pieces of ancient ruins crumbling here and there,” Della Valle told a news conference. “Italy has loads of beautiful treasures, and we need to show we know how to look after things in our country.”
