One of the common pronunciation mistakes made by English speakers when speaking Spanish is that they often pronounce the V much like they do in English. But that sound doesn’t exist in Spanish — in fact, vaca (cow) is pronounced the same as if it were spelled baca, and enviar (to send) sounds the same as if it were spelled embiar. And as our new lesson on pronouncing the b and v explains, while the two letters can be thought of as the same one for pronunciation, the sound of the letter can vary depending on the sounds around it.
