Puisque nous visitions Grenoble pour la première fois, nous avons décidé de
nous gâter
(mot du jour) en mangeant dans son meilleur resto : l’Auberge
Napoléon. Ceci étant un resto français
traditionnel, je leur avais envoyé un mél la semaine précédente pour demander s’ils
pouvaient nourrir deux végétariens. Avec une résponse affirmative, nous étions
ravis de découvrir un ticket dans notre
Grenoble Pass pour une bouteille de
champagne offerte – quel hasard heureux !

Notre hôte, très aimable, a semblé surpris quand nous avons présenté ce
coupon. Il nous a expliqué que ce n’était que la quatrième fois qu’un client
était
arrivé pour revendiquer son champagne. Avec un grand sourire, j’ai demandé, « Bon,
dans ce cas, pouvons-nous utiliser ce deuxième coupon pour une autre
bouteille ? » « Non » a-t-il répondu, très sérieusement. J’ai dit, « Oui, je sais, je plaisantais »
et il a
répliqué, « Madame, je ne plaisante jamais », et puis tout le monde a
ri ensemble. De toute façon, nos
repas végétariens et les menus plus traditionnels de nos amis étaient tous
délicieux.

Auberge Napoléon

Since we were visiting Grenoble for the first time, we
decided to spoil ourselves by eating at its best restaurant: Auberge
Napoléon. As this is a traditional French restaurant, I’d emailed them the
week before, asking if they could feed two vegetarians. With a response in the
affirmative, we were delighted to discover a coupon in our
Grenoble Pass
for a free bottle of champagne. What serendipity!

Our very pleasant host
seemed surprised when we presented the coupon. He explained that it was only the
fourth time that a customer had arrived to claim the free bottle of champagne.
With a big smile, I asked, "Well, in that case, can we use this second coupon
for another bottle?" Very seriously, he responded "No." I said, "I know, I was
just kidding," and he replied, "Madame, I never kid," and then we all laughed
together. In any case, our vegetarian meals and our friends’ more traditional
meals were all delicious.
